Video Stories
Videos should be no longer than three (30) minutes, and at least 30 seconds. We are looking for “positive messages”, stories of hope—how you or a friend got through it.
Content should be original and that you have permission to use. You can be creative with your presentation, or format. It can be a simple narrative, or, you can tell the story as an interview, even using animation. The story should be real and hopefully one that will reach out and help others that are hurting.
Guidelines (Thank you ReachOut.com, for these guidelines and references)
1. Focus on hope, a positive message that tells the story of how you or a friend made it through a rough time. Yes, there was a time of intense pain or hurting, it is okay to acknowledge/embrace that, but quickly talk about how you moved out of that “dark place”.
2. Should be about young people, aged 16-24, and, the person submitting the video must be aged 16-24.
3. Should be at least 30 seconds in length, but no more than 30 minutes.
4. If you are using music! Should use original music, license-free music, or music that you have secured necessary rights and releases. (See our Music group for legally free music)
5. YOU know how certain topics and details can trigger emotional responses in you, SO, be aware when making your video, that you need to be careful and responsible for how it will affect others. While you can talk about the things that were bringing you down, focus on the POSITIVE of what brought you out of it

Tips for Making a Good Video
1. Think about a difficult time in your life, and, what helped you get through it. What is your message/storyline of hope?
2. In telling the story, focus on “the one” thing you want them to remember! Something that can help them get through the bad times. For examples of each of these types, check out these videos on YouTube. (Interview example: Getting Through It; Narrative example: My Mom; PSA and animation example: Lonely Lamp)
3. Writing a script is useful. Roughly one page of script translates to one minute of video. It will guide you in telling your story.
4. Use the best camera/video you have available. Most computers will have basic software for editing.
